Course Description
True shepherding that honors God is heart-level.
People made in God’s image were
made relational. We were made to be in relationship, first with God, and then flowing out
from that, with one another. Apart from these relationships shepherding is not only
impossible, it is without meaning. As God designed it, heart-level
relationships are both
at once a means and end in his redemptive purpose for his people, as Paul makes clear
in Ephesians 4+. Only through these God-given
relationships can we truly glorify and
enjoy Him forever.
Course Goal
In this introductory lecture you will be presented with a general overview of the
dynamics of heart-level
relational ministry as the primary Godgiven
vehicle or
methodology for true Shepherding, that is, for true heart-level, relational change, for
individuals and families within the Household of God, the church.

Professor – Dr. John Neal
In the fall of 1975 God called John Neal out of darkness and into His marvelous light. Since that
time all John can remember wanting to do with the life God had given him was to study, know,
and proclaim the Word of Christ. God has graciously given him ample opportunity to do just that.
Finishing degrees of M.Div. (‘85) and D.Min. (‘89) in pastoral counseling, John began working at
the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation as a fulltime
counselor and teacher under
Wayne Mack in Allentown, PA. After working there from 1989-1997
God called him to the
pastorate in Richmond VA, where he has served as Pastor at Covenant PCA until the present.
God has also blessed him with a wonderful wife, Shirley—and both of them together with six
children, who are a joy to them. God has filled their cups, and they are truly thankful for all His
grace and kindness to them.
